Range extenders are easy to set up, and also they are easy to use. So, you can easily set them up and start using them within a short time. Linksys offers you a wide range of range extenders for your router. And, they can help you remove all the dead zones in your home Wi-Fi network. Moreover, you can use the latest models as access points as well.

So, you can set up your Linksys RE7000 in Extender Mode or Access Point Mode. And, you must follow the steps mentioned below in either case. So, read on to know about Linksys RE7000 Setup as per your preference.

Linksys RE7000 SetUp in Extender Mode

The Extender Mode is a suitable option for expanding your router’s network over a small area. And, you can set up the Linksys RE7000 to this mode in the following steps:

  • Connect the Extender to a Client Device

You need to power on the extender to start setting it up. So, connect your Linksys RE7000 to a power outlet and wait for the LED light to turn orange. After that, you can connect your phone or computer to the device. By default, its network would show up as “Linksys Extender Setup – xxx” under Wi-Fi.

  • Log Into the Extender’s Interface

After connecting your computer to the extender, open any web browser you prefer. Then, enter 192.168.1.1 (the default IP address of your Linksys extender) in the search box. This will take you to the login page of the extender. However, it will start the setup of your Linksys extender when you are using it for the first time.

Check the boxes for accepting the License Agreement and enabling automatic software updates. You can also set the language from the options given at the bottom left of the screen. Opt for starting the setup to begin the procedure.

  • Create a Password

When you start the Linksys RE7000 setup, this will lead you to a page where you can set a password. You need to enter a password here and repeat it in the next field to confirm it. Moreover, you can also enter a hint to help you remember the password.

So, this can be quite useful if you forget the password you set. But, this is optional, so you can proceed without setting a hint. Click on Save once you are done to proceed to the next step.

  • Select a Mode and Wi-Fi Network

You can opt between using the extender in wired or wireless mode. To use it as a range extender, you must opt for the wireless extender mode. This will allow you to expand your Wi-Fi range without wires. As a result, it can help you avoid quite a lot of clutter. But, it might pose a disadvantage in some cases regarding speed.

After selecting the mode, you must select the Wi-Fi you want to expand. And, for that, you need to enter the password of that network when prompted. This will extend the network of your router.

  • Create SSID and Password for the Extended Network

After selecting a network to expand, you have to set a name and password for it. Also, you can do that separately for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Apart from that, you can also change the security mode on both of them. Once you are done, click on Next to open the Spot Finder page.

The Spot Finder will help you find a suitable spot for Linksys RE7000 setup. So, use it to find a suitable location and update the firmware.

  • Update the Extender’s Firmware

Keeping the firmware of the extender up-to-date is very crucial for its performance. And, the device will check its firmware version automatically. Based on its findings, it will install the latest firmware version automatically. Once this is done, your extender is set up in Range Extender Mode and ready for use.

Setting Up the Linksys RE7000 in Access Point Mode

Do you want to set up your Linksys RE7000 as an access point? Then, the process is similar to what it was for setting it up as a wireless extender. So, you need to power on the device and wait for its LED light to show orange.

But, in this case, you need to use an ethernet cable to connect the extender to your router. Then, you must proceed with the following steps:

  • Open the Setup Page in the Browser

As in the previous method, you need to wirelessly connect a client device to the extender. Then, open a browser and enter the extender’s default IP address to reach the web-based setup page. Opt for starting the setup after checking both the boxes above this option.

  • Opt for Wired Range Extender Mode

As mentioned before, you can opt for using the device as a wired or wireless range extender. You need to opt for the former to use it as an access point. Also, make sure that you have connected the ethernet cable correctly on both sides. Otherwise, you might face an error during the setup process.

  • Set an SSID and Password

After selecting a mode, you need to name the network and set a password. You will have to use these to connect to the network. Apart from that, you need to set the admin’s password as well. You have to use the admin’s password for logging into the extender’s interface.

Once you are done with this step, your Linksys RE7000 setup in Access Point mode is done. So, you can then start using the expanded network.

Should You Choose the Extender or Access Point Mode?

Many users might wonder whether they should use their Linksys RE7000 as a wireless extender or access point. Now, that depends on how you will use the network and your requirements. And, for a larger area and multiple devices, an access point is surely a better option to ensure optimal speed.
