A modem’s DSL light remains off when it fails to detect a network connection. This happens when you use damaged Ethernet or power cables. A loose coax connection prevents the networking equipment from connecting to the internet. Thus, check these modem cables in the first place and replace the faulty cables.
Sometimes, the modem faces connectivity issues due to overheating. Turn off the device for a while and restart it to avoid this problem. Besides, an incorrect configuration can result in a “No DSL light on modem” error. Reset the device settings to restore the internet connection.
Usually, a modem’s DSL light goes off when the power light turns green. After this, the DSL light turns on after 1-2 minutes. However, if it is taking more than that, it indicates something is wrong with the modem. Find the problematic parts and repair them immediately.
Potential Reasons for No DSL Light on Modem
Several reasons could trigger this issue in the wireless modem.
Did you connect the Ethernet cable to a damaged DSL port? This is why the device is unable to identify the wireless network. Never place the home router far from the modem.
Moreover, you should always use a router that is compatible with the modem. Otherwise, the modem can’t establish a reliable connection. And, the DSL light will remain off if you are using outdated firmware. Update the modem and router’s firmware to overcome the communication error.
Don’t connect more than three devices in the same network. This might generate problems when the modem tries to connect to the internet. Disconnect the unwanted devices, reboot the modem, and the DSL light will turn green.
What to do when there is No DSL Light on Modem?
Don’t take an expert’s help in the first place to fix this modem issue. There are many easy troubleshooting methods to eliminate this connectivity error. But, first, you should check if there is a service outage going on. Check the modem’s manufacturer’s website to get this information.
A VPN connection could block the modem’s internet access. Disable the VPN from the Settings app to resolve this problem. Additionally, you should disable the firewall when using the Wi-Fi. If that doesn’t work, follow these solutions to turn on the DSL light:
Set Up the Modem
Improper installation could cause this problem in the modem. Set up the device again to establish a stable internet connection. Locate the home’s phone port and connect the modem’s cable there.
Plug one end of the coaxial cable into the TV wall jack. And, connect the other end to the wireless modem’s coax port.
In some of the DSL modems, the coax port is named “Phone In” or “Phone”. Connect the coax cable in that port and insert the power cable into the electrical outlet. The modem will turn on, and it will initiate a startup program. The DSL and power light will blink for a few seconds.
Once all the lights turn green, connect the router to the modem. And, you can either use a LAN cable to connect these two devices. Or, use a network cable to connect the wireless router to the DSL modem. Now, it’s time to open a web browser, go to the address bar and enter the private gateway IP.
What else needs to be Done?
Press the Enter key, provide the login information and click “Sign In”. Head towards “Wireless” to find out the SSID and passkey. Close this window and tap on the computer’s Wi-Fi menu. Select the router name, and select “Connect” to join the network.
The modem’s DSL light will blink green slowly while searching for the network. Once it detects the network and connects to the internet, this light will flash quickly. And, after 5 minutes, the DSL might turn solid green. This indicates that the modem has successfully established a connection. However, if there is “no DSL light on modem”, apply the next solution.
Power Cycle the DSL Modem and Router
Rebooting the wireless modem will fix the DSL signal and connection problem. And, if you use an external router, power cycle it as well. Unplug the power cords from the DSL modem and wait until its status light trunks off. Now, disconnect the router’s power cables from the electrical outlet.
Additionally, you need to turn off the connected wireless devices. Wait for at least 2-3 minutes and plug in the wireless modem’s power cables. Reconnect the router’s ethernet cable to the right port. Connect its power cords to the outlet and wait until the power light turns green.
The DSL modem’s power and DSL light will turn green. And, the device will then connect to the internet after detecting the network.
Is the DSL modem’s internet light blinking green? This indicates you have resolved the DSL signal issues successfully.
Check the Phone Jack
A faulty phone jack could cause this problem in the DSL modem. Ensure there is no wear and tear in this cable. And, if you find the phone jack faulty, replace it immediately.
Do you have another phone jack with an active internet connection? Unplug the existing cable and plug it in to resolve this connectivity issue.
Don’t place any electronic devices near the modem. It might cause interference with the DSL signal. Moreover, you should connect the modem’s power cables and phone jack to another wall outlet.
Restart the wireless modem and wait until the DSL light turns green. Open a web browser and use the internet without hassle.
Alternative Fixes for No DSL Light on Modem
A modem’s DSL light won’t turn on when there is no active internet plan. Renew the monthly subscription to use the Wi-Fi without network issues. Additionally, you need to check whether the modem’s ADSL light is blinking. This light flashes green when the modem connects to the DSL service.
Verify there is a dial-tone in the phone line which is connected to the modem. Ensure all the devices that are connected to the modem use the DSL filter. It protects the modem from an unwanted DSL signal issue. Connect the DSL modem directly to the MPOE to eliminate this connection problem. And, if the connection fails, contact an expert to fix the problem.
