How to do Arris SBG6580 Router Port Forwarding?

Arris SBG6580 comes along with firewall features which allows you to protect the home network from unwanted Internet access. It blocks the unauthorized incoming as well as the outgoing connection.

Here are the steps that you can try in order to set up the Arris port forwarding:

Step 1: Create a Static IP

In order to perform the Arris port forwarding setup, you must set up a static IP address in the device that you wish to port forward. After doing this, the port will remain open even after rebooting your device. 

How to Create a Static IP address for Windows device?

In the beginning, you have to tap on the Start menu. Next, proceed to the Control Panel. Under here, scroll down and select the “Network and Sharing Center” option.

Otherwise, you can tap on the “Network and Sharing” option. After that, a new page will appear on the screen. Here, search for the Change Adapter option. Next, you have to right-click on the Wi-Fi or LAN Area Connection option.

Choose Properties from the context menu. Afterward, you should mark the box beside the Internet Protocol Version (TCP/IPv4) option. Again tap on the Properties option. Then, choose the “Use the following IP address” option.

Next, what you have to do is to type the IP address, Default gateway, DNS server as well as Subnet mask. Finally, tap on OK, a static IP address will appear on the screen.

Step 2: Sign In to the Arris SBG6580 Router

Once you have successfully set up a static IP address for your device, sign in to the SBG6580 router. So, launch a web browser and find the address bar.

Next, enter the Arris router’s IP address within the given field. The IP address of the Arris router is 192.168.0.1.  If you are successful, enter the IP address within the address bar, then just hit the Enter key.

After that, you will see a box asking you for a username and password. However, if you are unable to see the login page, check if you entered the wrong IP address. Hence, you have to find out the actual IP address.

How to find out the IP Address?

In the beginning, hit the Start option. After that, select Run command from the available option. Within the Run dialogue box, type ‘cmd’. Hit the Enter key in order to open the Command Prompt.

Within the Command Prompt, enter ‘IPconfig’ as well as hit the Enter key. Then, you will see the Default Gateway. The Default Gateway is the IP address of your router. Now, once you have found your router’s IP address. You should enter it within the address bar and hit the Enter key.

Next, enter the username and password within the given field. If you use the router for the first time, then, you have to enter the default username. The default username is Admin. The default password is “password”.

Type the default login credentials and thereafter tap on the Sign-in button in order to log-in to the SBG6580 router.

Step 3: Locate the Port Forwarding Section

After successfully applying the above two steps, now it’s time to locate the port forwarding section of the Arris router. For that, at first, navigate to the top of the home page and choose the Advanced option.

Instantly, a new menu will appear on the screen. Here, choose the Port Forwarding option, select the IPV4 option. After that move to the next step.

Step 4: Use the Local IP Address Box

Now, you should type the IP address of the device which you wish to forward port within the Local IP Address box. It can be the IP address of the computer or any other device.

In case, you wish to forward a single port, you might have to type the port number in both the Local Start and End Port. Also, you should enter the port number on both the External Start and End Port boxes.

Besides that, if you wish to forward multiple ports at the same time, then you should enter the port number on both the Local Start/End Port as well as External Start/End Port boxes.

Then, type the highest port number on both the Local Start/ End Port as well as on the External Start/End Port boxes. Now, navigate to the Protocol box and choose the port that you wish to forward. Furthermore, from the Enabled dropdown box, select the On option. 

Once done, select the Apply option. After that, the ports are open and you have to test them.
